California Pizza Kitchen, the restaurant with locations in San Diego that reshaped casual dining with its creative take on classic flavors, is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a lineup of special surprises. From the return of beloved menu items to a revamped Thank You Card promotion rewarding every guest, CPK is kicking off the next chapter with help from actress Busy Philipps. A former CPK hostess and longtime fan, Philipps joins the celebration to highlight what has made CPK a favorite for four decades.
A Playful Take on Turning 40
Earlier this week, CPK teased a “mid-life crisis,” rolling out a temporary rebrand inspired by streetwear culture across its digital platforms. The unexpected shift—complete with bold videos, graphics, and messaging—left fans wondering what was happening.
Today, the mystery is solved. In a lighthearted mockumentary-style video, Philipps helps CPK set the record straight: “We’re 40 & Fine with It!” The campaign embraces the milestone by celebrating what CPK does best—fresh, innovative food served with a laid-back California vibe.
“I’ve been a huge fan of CPK ever since I worked there as a hostess back in the day, so of course I was thrilled to help them celebrate this incredible anniversary,” Philipps said. “My job was to remind CPK that at 40 years old, there’s no need for reinvention. Their legacy and continued leadership of creating incredible flavors and lasting memories is exactly what will keep people of all ages loving the brand for many years to come.”
A Limited-Time Menu, 40 Years in the Making
CPK is bringing back a selection of fan-favorite dishes from the past four decades to mark the occasion. Chosen by guests, team members, Executive Chef Paul Pszybylski, and founders Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax, this special menu is available through May 19:
(Founders’ Pick) Rosemary Roasted Potato & Grilled Chicken Pizza – Zesty lemon cream sauce, grilled chicken, roasted Yukon gold potatoes, mozzarella, and Parmesan, finished with fresh rosemary and wild Greek oregano. (Chef Paul’s Pick) Chicken Milanese – Crispy panko-crusted chicken breast with fresh arugula and housemade checca, topped with shaved Parmesan and fresh lemon. A tomato basil sauce variation is also available. (Team Members’ Pick) Waldorf Chicken Salad – A mix of field greens, grilled chicken, red grapes, Granny Smith apples, celery, candied walnuts, and Gorgonzola, served with Dijon balsamic vinaigrette or blue cheese dressing. (Guests’ Pick) Tortilla Spring Rolls – Hand-rolled flour tortillas stuffed with Baja Chicken, Thai Chicken, or Mediterranean fillings, baked to perfection in CPK’s signature pizza oven.Thank You Card Promotion: More Rewards, More Surprises
