ISCA’s annual spring championship meet in St. Petersburg kicked off this afternoon with some big drops in the distance events.

The biggest drop of the day went to 15-year-old Owen Gee, who slashed an astonishing 45 seconds off his 1000 time. The Cincinnati Marlins age grouper came in with a 10:17.30 from an invitational in November 2024. He won the 16 and under event in 9:32.08, putting him inside the top 50 15 year-olds in the country this season.

In the 17 and over category, University of Tennessee commit Mac Clark won handily. He stopped the clock in 9:01.34, a five-second improvement from the 9:06.53 best time he posted three weeks ago. He now ranks at #8 among 17 year-olds in the event for 2024-25.

After his 1000 victory, Clark contributed to Team Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics’ 400 free relay victory. The team touched in 3:03.99. Clark led off in 46.71, followed by Ben Whiteford (45.49), Jackson Edwards (44.63), and Nazar Zoukovski (44.51).

17-year-old Madeleine Simmons pulled off the same double as Clark, winning the mile in 16:45.64 before anchoring All Star Aquatics to a 3:25.62 relay victory. The mile time is a remarkable 26 second drop for the Northwestern commit from November 2024. She split 52.49 on the winning relay, following up Virginia Hinds (50.21), Hannah Clattenburg (51.50), and Lexie Bishop (51.42). Hinds had the fastest split of the field despite leading off from a flat start.

Touching just behind Simmons in the mile and winning the 16 and under category was PEAQ’s Olivia George (16:47.10). George improved from her 16:55.81 entry time from Allegheny Age Group Champs in early March. 

The session’s other event was the 400 medley relay, which went to the Cincinnati Marlins on the men’s side (3:20.57). The Marlins relay included a 50.25 lead-off from Nash King, followed by Griffin Barlow on breaststroke (55.28), Chase Grisi on butterfly (48.93), and Sam Demarco on freestyle (46.11). Team Suffolk finished two seconds behind the Marlins, with Noah Kakir blasting a 52.95 on the breaststroke leg.

On the women’s side, All Star Aquatics ran away with a nearly five-second victory, clocking a 3:43.95. The team consisted of Virginia Hinds (53.54), Cameron House (1:03.64), Lexie Bishop (55.51), and Hannah Clattenburg (51.26).
