Recently released left-hander Jalen Beeks has agreed to sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks as the team reshuffles its bullpen around two late spring injuries, AZCentral.com’s Nick Piecoro reported Tuesday.
MLB Network’s Jon Heyman confirmed the agreement.
Pending a physical, he joins a D-backs team that lost starter-turned-reliever Jordan Montgomery for the season with Tommy John surgery in his immediate future. Back-end arm Kevin Ginkel is also expected to begin the season on the injured list due to shoulder inflammation.

Arizona revealed both players’ issues on Tuesday, two days before the season begins with a home series against the Chicago Cubs.
Beeks, who the Houston Astros released Saturday, pitched last year for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies.
The 31-year-old posted a 3.92 ERA and 1.79 WHIP with 17 strikeouts in 26 games with the Pirates after being traded.
Beeks has 202 games of MLB experience in his career that started in 2018 and has gone through Boston (2018) and Tampa Bay (2018-23) before the two stops last season.
The lefty brings a mid-90s fastball complemented by a cutter and changeup.
This spring, he allowed a single run in four innings of work.
Beeks will join a bullpen that has A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez likely juggling closing duties to begin the season. Converted starter Ryne Nelson, lefties Ryan Thompson and Joe Mantiply, plus Bryce Jarvis and Shelby Miller are available to eat up innings until Ginkel and veteran Kendall Graveman can return from respective injuries to lend support.
