The Aztecs women’s team waited more than a decade to return to March Madness, and it faced a similar opponent and a similar fate in its first round loss 103-48 to LSU in Baton Rouge Saturday.
While the score in 2012 was a single-digit final, Saturday was far from that as the Tigers came out on fire and simply never looked back. LSU scored the first 11 points of the game before the Aztecs could get a bucket.
The Tigers scored more points in the first half than the Aztecs scored in the entire game, as LSU ran out to a 49-20 lead at the break.
The second half saw more offense for the Aztecs, although the team still failed to break the 50-point mark against the 2023 NCAA Champion Tigers. LSU was simply too efficient on offense for SDSU to handle. The Tigers shot an even 50% from the field on top of hitting 10 three pointers.
The Aztecs season ends at 25-10 overall and 11-7 in Mountain West conference play.
