Barrymore, 50, was chatting with her good friend Moon Unit Zappa, the daughter of Frank Zappa, during the latest episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. The two women were discussing the family dynamics they each had while growing up when Barrymore related her situation to her current experience as a mother.
The Charlie's Angel star then revealed that her divorce from Kopelman was "devastating," as she found herself missing the same type of family dynamic she "swore" she would create for her kids.
"Everything to me was very devastating and took me a long time to recover from if it wasn't in the traditional family dynamic that I swore I would do for my family because I did not grow up that way," she explained.
Barrymore, who tied the knot with Kopelman in 2012, later divorced the Intern actor in 2016. They now co-parent their two daughters: Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10.
Barrymore previously revealed that she and Kopelman—who is now remarried to Allie Michler—have an amicable co-parenting relationship, and she even insisted that her relationship with her ex "has never been better" now that they are no longer married.
