Authorities confirmed that a 16-year-old was taken into custody in connection to the killing on Thursday. The teen’s identity was not released.
Alvarado was shot around 4:15 p.m. on the 1400 block of 100th Avenue while on his way to soccer practice with two of his friends, according to Oakland City Councilmember Ken Houston. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The boy was set to turn 16 next month.
