RUSSELL Wilson has reportedly decided on his next destination as Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to look for their next quarterback.
The 36-year-old Wilson has been linked with numerous teams, including his former team Steelers, as the new league year became official last week.
Wilson met with the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants last week as the two are interested in signing the 10-time Pro Bowler.
It seems that Wilson has picked the New York Giants to be the fourth team he will represent in the NFL.
During an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Wednesday, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that Wilson looks at the Giants as “more than a viable option” for him to continue his career than the Steelers.
However, it appears that Wilson’s decision hinges on what happens with NFL star Aaron Rodgers.
The 41-year-old has been linked with the Steelers and Giants – two teams that reportedly have standing offers for him.
Rodgers has been reportedly waiting for the Minnesota Vikings to pursue him.
But NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday that the Vikings aren’t looking to sign the four-time NFL MVP and have told teams they will not trade 2024 first-round pick quarterback JJ McCarthy.
If Rodgers picks the Steelers, Wilson would likely join the Giants.
There could be a scenario that sees Rodgers continue to wait for the Vikings, or possibly retire, leaving Wilson to sign with the Steelers.
Wilson left the Browns and Giants facilities without a contract and he continued to share his previous sentiments after the season that he’s content with staying in Pittsburgh.
He played 11 games with the Steelers last season.
Wilson finished the season with a 63.7 completion percentage for 2,482 yards along with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.
However, he led the Steelers to five straight losses to the end season, including one in the postseason.
It would make sense for Wilson to play once again for Pittsburgh after a recent trade.
The Steelers acquired star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf in a trade earlier this month to pair with George Pickens as the two are a fit for Wilson’s deep-ball abilities.
Wilson and Metcalf were also Seattle Seahawks teammates for three seasons from 2019 to 2021.
The Browns and Giants – the two teams interested in Wilson – don’t seem like desirable destinations.
Both franchises are coming off disappointing 3-14 campaigns.
The Browns and Giants may find their future franchise quarterback if they strike out on adding a veteran quarterback this offseason.
Cleveland has also been linked with Carson Wentz, while the Giants have been linked with Joe Flacco and Jameis Winston.
