Dolly Partons One Bold Rule for Smash Collaboration With Rising Pop Star

Dolly Parton nearly broke the internet when she debuted a duet with Sabrina Carpenter—featuring on a remix of the rising star's "Please, Please, Please"—but if Carpenter hadn't abided by one bold rule, it never would have happened.

In an interview with the Knoxville News Sentinel published earlier this week, Parton admitted to having one condition when it came to rerecording the popular song from Carpenter's latest album Short n' Sweet.

“Of course, she can talk a little bad now and then," the Jolene songstress told reporter Devarrick Turner. In fact, the original rendition of the track includes the lyrics, "Heartbreak is one thing / my ego's another / I beg you, don't embarrass me, motherf--ker."

But, Parton told her, "Now, I don't cuss. I don't make fun of Jesus. I don't talk bad about God, and I don't say dirty words, on camera," though she's admittedly been "known to if [she gets] mad enough.”

Carpenter was clearly more than happy to comply, as the updated version is clean, featuring the line, "Heartbreak is one thing / my ego's another / I beg you, don't embarrass me like the others," instead.

It's a good thing, too, because their partnership was so successful—racking up over 11 million views on YouTube—that it sparked the idea of Carpenter playing Parton in a biopic, with some fans going so far as to declare it "all I can think about now.”

In throwback footage from their time in the studio, Parton teased Carpenter, telling her, “You’ll be this old one day.”

"I can’t wait," Carpenter replied. "I hope I look like you!”
