Oakland: Man gets 10 years for killing two people in while evading police at high speeds

OAKLAND — A man has been sentenced to 10 years behind bars for killing two people and injuring a third by crashing his car while escaping police at high speeds through city streets, court records show.

Ramon Sanchez, 40, pleaded no contest to two vehicular manslaughter counts in the deaths of Jacqueline Elliott and Cleveland Allen. He was transferred to state prison on Jan. 27, and remains housed at North Kern State Prison, records show.

Though technically sentenced to 10 years, Sanchez can reduce his time in half with good behavior. And his time spent in jail since his 2022 arrest gave him more than five years worth of credit for time served, records show.

The sentencing order gives him 10 years for each victim, but the terms run concurrently, records show.

The fatal crash occurred on March 17, 2022. Police in Oakland attempted to pull Sanchez over for an outstanding warrant. He sped off down 76th Avenue at 70 to 90 miles per hour, police said at the time.

The officers didn’t pursue him, and about a quarter-mile later he ran a stop sign and crashed into a car containing all three victims, authorities said.

Prosecutors negotiated the plea deal last year. Sanchez’s attorney declined to comment.
