TURLOCK — A dozen arrests were made as part of an online child predator sting based out of Turlock, police announced Friday.
Of the 12 people arrested, the Turlock Police Department said three were residents of the city while nine traveled from other areas as far as West Sacramento.
Each was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail and faces charges related to attempted child exploitation and other similar charges. Turlock police noted that additional suspects were under investigation and that further arrests could be made.
"These arrests send a strong message that law enforcement agencies are united and relentless in the fight against child exploitation," Turlock Police Chief Jason Hedden said. "I commend our team and our law enforcement partners for their outstanding work and collaboration in protecting the youth in our community."
The online chat operation was conducted from March 6-8 and involved several other law enforcement agencies including from the Sacramento, Placer County, Yuba County, and Folsom areas as well as state agencies like the Department of Justice, highway patrol, and corrections department. The operation targeted individuals attempting to engage in illicit activities with minors.
Turlock police urge anyone who may suspect their child of being a victim of online exploitation to report it to authorities immediately.
