John Mulaney and Olivia Munn were married back in July at a friend’s home in New York.
What wasn’t widely reported at the time was that Sam Waterston, who co-starred with Munn in The Newsroom, served as the officiant.

During an appearance Monday, March 10 on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mulaney revealed that the Law & Order actor “once said to Olivia if you ever get married, I’ll perform the ceremony.”
When Jimmy Kimmel asked why Waterston had volunteered, Mulaney responded, “I think it was chit chat. But you take people up on what they offer.”
Despite the high-profile officiant, Mulaney said that the couple’s now 3-year-old son Malcolm became the focus of attention during the ceremony.
“He actually went to the bathroom in his diaper during it and announced it mid vows,” Mulaney revealed. “Yeah, a very sweaty little two-year-old in a tuxedo just went, ‘I’m pooping.’”
Kimmel noted Malcolm made the announcement of his act while the vows were exchanged, leaving Mulaney to quip that “it’s really an in-the-moment kind of declaration.”

Mulaney and Munn also share daughter Méi, who was born in September 2024.
The comedian also discussed Méi during the interview with Kimmel. “She’s almost six months old and she’s about 20 pounds,” he said. “When she’s taking any type of acetaminophen liquid, she’s taking a 12 month’s dosage. That’s based on weight.”
That comment prompted Kimmel to remark, “She’s big, huh?”
“She’s big,” confirmed Mulaney. “And she’s got a strong neck and a real presence. I really like her.”
“There is an age when you’ll have to stop bragging about how big she is,” noted Kimmel.
“There is an age,” Mulaney confirmed, before adding, “but I’ll always brag about her neck.”
Kimmel also asked about his daughter’s name. “Her name is Méi and her middle name is June. Méi June. Did you do that to be funny?”
“No,” responded Mulaney. “I’m a professional comedian so if I was going for funny it might be a harder laugh than Méi next to June.”
