Former Alabama DL Jonathan Allen signs deal with new NFL team, per report

Former Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen has agreed to a new deal with the Minnesota Vikings, according to a report.

Allen will be making the move to Minnesota after spending the last 8 seasons with Washington. He helped lead the franchise to the NFC Championship Game this past season.

Allen was released by the Commanders last week. Now, he’ll be a Viking after agreeing to a 3-year, $60 million deal with the franchise, per Ian Rapoport.

Allen will be entering his age-30 season next season and is a 2-time Pro Bowler. He has 42 sacks, 60 tackles for loss and 118 quarterback hits in his career, making him 1 of just 23 NFL players to reach each of those benchmarks since 2017.

Allen was a 1st-round pick out of Alabama. He was the No. 17 overall pick by Washington back in 2017. He played for the great Nick Saban and earned numerous accolades during his time in Tuscaloosa.

Allen posted just 3 sacks in 2024, but he was limited to just 8 regular-season games due to injury. However, he returned for Washington’s playoff run and recorded 6 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and 2 quarterback hits across 3 postseason games with the Commanders.

He now joins a Minnesota team that has playoff aspirations in 2025 and beyond. The Vikings went 14-3 in 2024 before bowing out of the playoffs early, but will be looking to make a deeper run next season.
