Paul Walter Hauser is taking his health and his Major League Wrestling training seriously — so much so that he's already lost 20 pounds.
The Black Bird actor, 38, revealed some of the secrets to his impressive weight loss while chatting exclusively with Parade ahead of the MLW Battle Riot event on April 5, sharing that changing his diet along with cross training has been beneficial all around.

"I performed in New York for MLW a couple months ago. I was probably 265 pounds. I'm currently down to 242 pounds. So, I dropped over 20 pounds in the last few months and I'm just trying to keep my weight down and trying to heal my ribs," he says, noting that he bruised his ribs during a recent match with Joey Janella, and has been "hitting my cold plunge, doing red light therapy and taking ibuprofen" amid his healing process.

"That's been the main focus right now," he tells Parade of his weight loss journey. "The more I keep my weight down, the better I feel, the better I move, the less winded I get. So, that's been the thing. I tried lifting weights, like heavy weights, and I couldn't do it with my rib issue, so, I'm just gonna have to count on my brute strength. I'm not able to build much muscle because of the bruised rib situation."
Hauser goes on to tell Parade about his upcoming match, sharing that wrestling is a "lifelong dream" of his.

"I'll be partaking in something called the Battle Royal, or we call it a Battle Riot, and it's 40 men entering a ring and you have to pin them or throw them over the top rope to win the match," he explains. "Last man standing wins and this year, whoever wins is taking home the World Heavyweight Championship title, which is a lot of pressure, both in having to face all of those competitors to survive it and to then potentially carry the weight of the company's championship title. It's a lot."
Despite the pressures of competing for the World Heavyweight Championship looming, Hauser says he has the support of his wife Amy to help carry him through — even if she's a little weary of the physical and violent nature of it.
"She doesn't like it, but she supports it," he says. "But I'm making some money doing it as well, and in the offseason when I don't have an acting job lined up and the residuals aren't flowing through the mailbox, sometimes it helps to go out and wrestle and sign some autographs and sell some T-shirts. It supports the family, too."
Tickets for the MLW Battle Riot VII are on sale now, and the event is slated to take place on Saturday, April 5, at the Commerce Hotel & Casino in Commerce, California.
