The dealership in Joplin has served riders in southwest Missouri for years.

“After proudly serving the SWMO Community and helping riders find their Freedom on the open road, we’ll close our doors for the final time on Monday, March 31st – Forever grateful for the memories and journeys shared,” the dealership announced.

The news was made public on Tuesday, March 4.

To clear out inventory, Hideout Harley-Davidson is slashing prices on bikes and parts through the end of March.

    FAN REACTIONS

The news has left Harley-Davidson fans disappointed, with many reflecting on the store’s impact on the local community.

“Wow!! Never thought I’d see this happen,” one stunned customer wrote.

Another commented on the brand’s struggles, saying, “Their target market has aged out. With interest rates being super high and the used Harley market being very plentiful, that spells disaster for discretionary products.”

Some speculated about the dealership’s inventory, with one person claiming, “Downstream casino bought four of them and are going to give them away.”

Many were heartbroken over the loss of a beloved gathering spot.

“SO sad to hear that they are closing. Loved going there,” one fan wrote.

“Really sad. They were one of the few stores that helped bring the community together and put on events,” another added.

Riders who relied on the dealership for training were especially disappointed.

“I’m more sad about the fact we’ll be losing the motorcycle safety driving class,” one said.

Some pointed to competition and management issues as contributing factors.

“They couldn’t really compete with other dealerships that are within an hour or two away. They also got rid of most of the good employees and lost customers by doing that,” a user claimed.

    HARLEY-DAVIDSON REVENUE SLUMPS

The dealership’s shutdown comes as Harley-Davidson faces a sharp decline in sales and revenue.

Several Harley-Davidson dealerships shut down across the US last year, including locations in New York City, San Francisco, and Titusville, Florida.

The company reported a 60% drop in revenue and sold 53% fewer motorcycles in the last quarter of 2024 compared to 2023, News Atlas reported.

North America saw a 13% decline in sales during the final three months of 2024.

Harley blames the slump on economic instability and rising interest rates.

In Q4 2024, its main business unit, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, posted a total revenue of $420 million, down 47% from the same period in 2023.

The company took a massive $214 million operational loss.

For the full year, Harley-Davidson reported $5.19 billion in revenue, an 11% decline from 2023.

Total operating income was nearly cut in half, falling by 47% to $417 million.

Harley shipped 148,862 motorcycles worldwide in 2024, a 17% decrease from the previous year.

As dealers struggle with excess inventory, Harley announced plans to cut back on shipments.

Harley expects revenue to remain flat or shrink by another 5% in 2025.
