Exit fees Florida State, Clemson expected to drop substantially as part of ACC settlement

Exit fees for Florida State and Clemson are expected to drop substantially in the coming years as part of a settlement agreement with the ACC, according to a report.

On Tuesday, multiple reports stated the ACC was close to settling its ongoing lawsuits with FSU and Clemson. The settlement was expected to include a relatively-manageable exit fee for any program who wishes to leave the ACC after 2029-30. Now, we have some specific details being reported on that front.

    Per ESPN’s Andrea Adelson, the exit fee to leave the ACC will drop $18 million annually through 2029-30. At that point, the fee is expected to be approximately $75 million.

    That means Florida State, Clemson or any other current ACC program could depart the league after the 2029 football season for a fraction of what it previously would have been obliged to pay. That opens the door for conferences like the SEC or the Big Ten to thoroughly investigate the possibility of adding ACC schools in the future.

    Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, FSU and Clemson have scheduled board meetings for Tuesday where they are expected to formally drop lawsuits against the ACC.
