The Denver Nuggets didn’t make their comeback against the Boston Celtics, but they got close because of the defensive end of the floor.
Denver’s offense is elite against the majority of teams in the NBA. Against the top teams, it’s merely good. As a result, the Nuggets must get creative in how they approach games against the best teams, and Sunday’s loss to Boston was an interesting window into that line of thinking.
Could the Nuggets find a way to improve enough defensively against the best teams to make up for an offense that gets slightly worse? They can if they have the right personnel, and an elite wing defender just happens to be coming back from injury in the next week or so. Perhaps Peyton Watson is the key to Denver’s success against the best teams in the NBA.
On the latest episode of Pickaxe and Roll, Ryan Blackburn recaps the Denver Nuggets 110-103 loss to the Boston Celtics. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray showed up, but the Celtics caused confusion with their game plan that forced the ball into the hands of Christian Braun and Russell Westbrook. Michael Porter Jr. also struggled once again vs a great team.
Ryan breaks down what happened, the good and bad, and highlights a possible solution to Denver’s issues that hasn’t been tried before.
