Diane Warren lost the best original song award for the 16th time at the 2025 Oscars, but she’s keeping her characteristically good humor about it.

01/23/2025The prolific songwriter was nominated for “The Journey,” sung by H.E.R. in The Six Triple Eight. Her first nod in the category came in 1987, for “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” from Mannequin.
“I’m consistent as f—” Warren joked with Variety on the Vanity Fair afterparty red carpet in Beverly Hills on Sunday night (March 3). “You know, it is what it is. I’m happy to be here.”
She added, “I’m the Terminator of the Oscars — I’ll be back. That’s in my Arnold Schwarzenegger voice. I’m coming back. You can’t get rid of me.”
Despite the losses, in 2023, Warren became the first songwriter to receive an Honorary Oscar. The award was inscribed: “To Diane Warren, for her genius, generosity and passionate commitment to the power of song in film.”
With her 16th nomination, Warren tied with Paul Francis Webster for most nods in the category’s 91-year history. She is surpassed by Sammy Cahn with 26, and Johnny Mercer with 18. She also ties with Cahn for the longest continuous streak of best original song nominations, as its her eight consecutive year getting recognized in the category.
She’s also now the woman with the most best original song nominations, passing the late Marilyn Bergman, who has 15.
