The tragic death of a young student in the seaside town of Morecambe marks the start of a new series of The Bay.
The ITV show has returned for a fifth season, with Marsha Thomason as DS Townsend and Daniel Ryan as DI Tony Manning at the forefront of a new police investigation in Lancashire.
Catherine Oldfield, executive producer, said: “When the body of a young woman is found murdered in a lock, Jenn finds herself in the middle of divorced parents where there’s a lot of history and bad blood.
“Her diplomatic skills are going to be tested like never before.”
Morecambe’s major investigation unit (MIU) is called in when Hannah, a 23-year-old university student, is found dead on the edge of the docks.
DS Townsend must push aside her own grief after the death of her father to support Hannah’s bitterly divided family.
But as the MIU team dig deeper into the case, they uncover hidden friendships, secret liaisons and complicated layers in Hannah’s life.
At the same time, DS Townsend must reconcile her personal and professional struggles as she tries to build bridges in her won family.

At the heart of the story were two families owning rival building firms the McGregors and the Metcalfs. Both were bidding to win the contract to build on the Frontierland site.
DS Townsend also discovered her daughter was being bullied at school and a brick was thrown through a window of her family home.
A neighbour’s CCTV revealed the brick thrower was Lewis Walsh, who was also the school pupil who has been bullying her daughter and the son of Kim McGregor.
DS Towsend is told she can’t arrest Lewis because she is personally involved in the matter.
Instead, she must investigate the two arson cases; one at the Metcalf family home which killed mum Beth Metcalf and the other at her husband Dean Metcalf’s builder’s yard.
During her investigations, DS Townsend ended up arresting Lewis and his fingerprints turned out to match the fingerprints from a lighter found in a car near the scene of the Metcalf house fire.
Lewis eventually confessed to starting the house fire to impress his stepdad Terry McGregor, after the Metcalfs won the bid for Frontierland site.
Then later Carl, Terry McGregor’s son, admitted he set fire to the Metcalfs building yard on his father’s instructions to stop the site being developed.
Finally, when Terry is brought in for questioning it emerged the reason he was so desperate to gain the site and stop the anyone else getting it was because he knew there was a body buried there.
Terry’s father had shot and killed a local planning officer, who had been taking bribes but become greedy. Terry had helped his father bury the body years earlier and now he did not want it to be uncovered.
Meanwhile, back at the station DI Manning is having to contend with the threat of staff cuts.
And at home DS Townsend’s partner Chris finally changes the locks on their family home so his ex-wife Jacqui can no longer turn up when she likes.

“We go to Glasson Dock too which was so fascinating.
“What’s so great is that wherever we go, everyone thrilled that we’re there, that we’re showcasing the amazing beauty of Morecambe.”
The five-mile stretch of Morecambe Bay, the Stone Jetty and the faded grandeur of the town’s architecture such as the Winer Gardens all play a role in the series.
Catherine Oldfield, executive producer, said: “It’s always lovely to go to Morecambe.
“It’s such a fantastic place.
“I’ll never be bored of that view or the sunsets.”
