WWE announcer Pat McAfee has lashed out after Canadian wrestling fans booed The Star Spangled Banner.
The former NFL punter was on the call for the WWE Chamber in Toronto Saturday night.
McAfee began a media career after hanging up his cleats in 2016.
A two-time Pro Bowler, he now fronts a popular ESPN daily show and made his WWE bow in 2019.
McAfee watched on as Canadian singer Elizabeth Irving sang the US national anthem at the Rogers Center.
Her rendition was met with a chorus of boos from watching fans.
“These are the most stacked Elimination Chambers that the WWE has ever had,” McAfee said on the broadcast.
“It kind of sucks that it’s in the terrible country of Canada that booed our national anthem to start this entire thing!”
Canadian and US sports fans have taken to booing the anthems at recent sporting events.
The move comes after President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Canadian goods.
“Yall were in Canada. It was not their national anthem lol,” wrote one wrestling fan on X.
“This will not go over well,” warned a second.
“Canada can create their own WWE if they want. They don’t have to watch the mean old US,” countered a third.
“Love the fact that you called them out for their disrespect!!” said a fourth.
The Pat McAfee Show recently made a comeback to ESPN after an end-of-season break.
McAfee and the rest of his usual colleagues broadcast live from the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
Pat McAfee's playing days
Pat McAfee enjoyed a hugely successful stint before switching to a career in the media.
The talk show star played punter in the NFL for eight seasons from 2009 to 2016.
He was a seventh round NFL Draft pick in 2009 out of West Virginia and spent his entire career with the Indianapolis Colts.
The ex-punter was named to the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2016, and he was a first team All-Pro in 2014, as well.
McAfee owns the unique NFL record of the highest career net average punting yards with 41.4 yards while his longest ever punt was 74.
But its return to the network was apparently in doubt.
Speaking about his vacation, McAfee said, “While we were down there, during our break, with how long it was, some people were wondering.
“I’ve heard, in the industry, ‘Oh, Pat McAfee and the show are never coming back to ESPN.’
“They thought we were gonna sail off into the sunset. Never come back.
“Then I popped my a** into Disney and I think, ‘Is this not enough of a mention?’”
