Viewers watching the 97th Academy Awards on Hulu were left wondering if the streamer had crashed on Sunday, March 2, when the telecast abruptly ended just before the final two categories — Best Actress and Best Picture — were announced. But it appears the show was merely cut off because it had been running over.

Many users were understandably livid.
"What the heck @hulu. I was still watching the Oscars and you cut it off at 10:30pm before it got to the last couple of awards," one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote. "If you’re going to stream something live, at least stream it to the end. So annoying."
"The #Oscars ending was an homage to The Sopranos," wrote another commenter, referencing that show's infamous cut-to-black series finale. "Oh, wait. @hulu just cut it off during the Best Actress announcement. Thanks for ruining the end of the ceremonies."
Still, others noted that perhaps Adrien Brody, whose acceptance speech for Best Actor went well over the allotted time limit, was to blame for the unfortunate experience. "Adrian Brody winning for an AI enhanced performance and then speaking so long Hulu cut off the entire show…. CHOP," one subscriber vented on X.
As a result of the glitch, countless people had to find out via social media (or a text from their mom) that Demi Moore lost to Mikey Madison in a major Best Actress upset. Needless to say, it was not a good night for cord cutters — or for Demi Moore.
