Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's Wicked-themed performance was one of the most highly anticipated moments of the 2025 Academy Awards — with good reason.
When the iconic duo took the stage wearing gorgeous ball gowns, audience members watched in awe as Grande and Erivo flawlessly performed an array of songs.

Belting out a medley of tunes from the Wizard of Oz universe, including "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "Defying Gravity" and "Home" from The Wiz, Grande and Erivo brought Glinda and Elphaba to life once again, demonstrating exactly why both performers nabbed Oscar nominations this year.
On social media, fans couldn't get enough of their performance, with one X (formerly Twitter) user writing, "Out of the world vocals. Mesmerizing," while another added, "Ariana's whistle notes just unlocked a new color in the rainbow."

While in previous years, nominees for Best Song were performed during the awards show, this year's live musical numbers focused on “celebrating the filmmaking community and some of its legends,” according to a press release shared with CNN.
In addition to the Wicked co-stars, Doja Cat, Queen Latifah, Lisa of Blackpink and Grammy-nominated artist Raye also took the stage.
