Rohit Sharma becomes worst-ever India captain in this aspect ahead of CT 2025 semi-finals

India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma achieved an unwanted feat to his name in ODI cricket. He became the first captain from India to lose 10 consecutive tosses in the 50-over cricket.

Rohit Sharma entered his name in the unwanted list after he went on to lose the toss against the New Zealand National Cricket Team in the last league game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The match between the teams is taking place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (2nd March).

The luck surely hasn't been favoring Rohit at the toss at all. The India National Cricket Team skipper hasn't won a single toss in ODIs since November 2023. It surely would be a cause of concern, especially with some big games of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 around the corner.

In 2025, Rohit has lost 6 tosses on the trot. He didn't win in the ODI series against the England National Cricket Team and now has lost tosses in all three games of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, he won't be bothered much by it as long as results are coming his team's way.

Most Consecutive tosses lost by Captains in ODIs, Rohit Sharma joins list

With the loss of a toss in the ongoing game against New Zealand, Rohit lost his 10th straight toss. He is now only behind Brian Lara, who lost 12 consecutive tosses, and Peter Borren, who lost 11 consecutive tosses. Overall, India have lost 13 consecutive tosses in ODIs.

    11 - Peter Borren (Mar 2011-Aug 2013)

    10 - Rohit Sharma (Nov 2023-Mar 2025)*

Was anyway looking to bat first, wanted to see what we could do up front and then challenge our bowlers - Rohit Sharma

However, in the ongoing game, Rohit Sharma was happy with losing the toss as he got what he wanted. The India National Cricket Team skipper mentioned that they wanted to bat first, having chased in the last two games.

Rohit mentioned that they want to see what they can do upfront with the bat and they want to challenge their bowlers under lights. While talking about the success of the team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, he said:

"Was anyway looking to bat first, wanted to see what we could do up front and then challenge our bowlers since we chased on both games. The approach will be very similar to the previous games, just trying to do the same things.

"One change for us - Harshit has been rested, Varun is playing for us. It is all about bowling in partnerships, in both games we have combined to pick 19 wickets. Our spinners have restricted them well and then the seamers have got the wickets."

India National Cricket Team have qualified for the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. A win in the ongoing game will ensure them a place at the top of the table in Group A. And if that happens, they will be locking horns with Australia in the semi-final.
