Deebo Samuel traded by 49ers during NFL Combine, per report

Deebo Samuel is being traded by the San Francisco 49ers to the Washington Commanders for draft pick compensation, sources told NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport on Saturday.

The former South Carolina star has only played for 1 team during his NFL career and that’s the 49ers, the team that drafted him in the second round of the 2019 draft. But according to Rapoport, that will be changing in 2025, as the Pro Bowl selection in 2021 who’s been injury-ravaged recently is heading east to Washington.

Samuel is due $21.7 million this year and will join forces with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, the former LSU standout who had one of the most brilliant rookie seasons in NFL history in leading Washington all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

Samuel’s production has slowed down since that Pro Bowl season when he had 1,770 scrimmage yards and 14 total touchdowns. He has struggled mightily to regain that form though, averaging just 56 receptions for 731.3 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns with 40 carries for 197.7 yards and 3 touchdowns over the past 3 seasons.

Recently, Samuel made his desire to play elsewhere public, telling ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Super Bowl Sunday that he wanted to play somewhere else moving forward. Apparently, during NFL Combine weekend no less, that request has been granted by the 49ers.
