Isaiah Bond is a confident young man, and the former Texas and Alabama wide receiver had grand aspirations for his 40-yard dash performance at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis on Saturday.
“I’m going to break the record (Saturday), for sure,” Bond told reporters on Friday. “I anticipate running a 4.20 or possibly, if I’m feeling great, I might run a 4.1.”
Bond boldly stated on Friday that he was going to break the all-time combine record in the 40, which is held by fellow former Longhorn Xavier Worthy, who ran a 4.21 on his 2nd attempt at last year’s combine. So, if Bond ran the 4.20 time that he said he was going to, that would’ve been enough to break the record.
But Bond didn’t do that. He was solid on Saturday, running a 4.39. But he wasn’t record-setting, finishing fourth in his group, which was ironically led by yet another former Texas wideout, Matthew Golden, who burned it up with a 4.29.

Naturally, in the age of social media, bold proclamations that don’t come to fruition are followed by severe backlash, and that’s what Bond got on Saturday after his promise to break Worthy’s record went up in flames.
