TikTok user Tonya P (@tonyap) posted a viral video revealing how another shopper noticed an extra $60 tacked onto their total after using the scan and go feature.

They only found as after realizing the price seemed too high.

The shopper re-scanned the items using a self-checkout machine to find the bill was much cheaper.

“A customer just told me that when he was self-checking out, his bill came to $150,” Tonya said in her video.

“But when he checked his receipt, the total of his items was actually $90. Walmart charged him an extra $60.”

The revelation has sparked outrage among Walmart customers, many of whom claim they’ve been overcharged as well.

The video racked up 224,000 views and over 7,000 likes.

The U.S. Sun reached out to Walmart but has not immediately heard back.

    SOCIAL MEDIA FRENZY

Shocked shoppers flooded the comments, sharing similar experiences and warning others to double-check their receipts.

One concerned viewer wrote, “no matter what store I’m at, I always ‘pre-shop’ by adding to my cart on that store’s app so I know what to expect.”

Another user was baffled by Walmart’s system, asking, “How do you do Scan & Go at Walmart?? I always keep a running total of my items.”

Others agreed, insisting they had also encountered unexplained price hikes.

“I noticed that too,” one person admitted.

Another added, “a lot of items are on sale based on location, but in Scan & Go… you’re gonna pay full price regardless.”

    SHADY CHARGES

One commenter warned that scanning at a register doesn’t necessarily solve the issue.

“Pay attention! You can go to a register and let them ring you up, and they’ll still double something to get extra money. I’ve been there five times, and they did that to me—but I catch it every time.”

A separate customer claimed that using Walmart Pay led to an unexpected surcharge.

What is Walmart's Scan and Go?

Walmart's Scan and Go was made to save time for shoppers

Walmart’s Scan and Go system was created to help customers scan items as they shop, pay, and leave without waiting in long checkout lines.

The retailer describes the new system to be done in a few easy steps:

Customers first need to have the Walmart app downloaded on their phones with their location access enabled. On the Store Mode landing page, shoppers must click the Scan and Go option. Customers can scan each item and place them in their carts as they shop. At the end, they’ll be prompted to view the cart to make sure the quantity on the app matches the ones in their carts. Shoppers will press “Check Out” and head to a self-checkout kiosk. They’ll be prompted to scan the provided QR code at the register and confirm their payment method. Once the transaction is complete, shoppers can leave the store without worry.

“I used Walmart Pay the other day because I left my debit card at home. I was charged 10-15% more even though there’s not supposed to be a fee.”

Others lamented that they only noticed the discrepancies when they got home.

    PRICE DISCREPANCIES

“This just happened to me,” one frustrated shopper wrote.

“My total was $110.91 plus taxes, but my itemized receipt was only $99.28. I didn’t notice until I got home.”

Similar complaints have cropped up on Reddit, where customers have also accused Walmart of shady pricing tactics.

One user warned, “Walmart raises my total cost when I apply Walmart Cash.”

One particularly enraged customer took their issue straight to Walmart’s support team – and was shocked by the response.

“I just chatted with a support agent,” they wrote.

“They told me to make the order and contact them after for a refund. HA! I told them they are stealing money, and the agent said, ‘I agree with you.’”

Another Redditor provided receipts, claiming, “I just noticed the same thing. The order total went from $207 to $223 when I applied $2.50 in Walmart Cash. That is very shady and unethical of Walmart.”

As frustration mounts, shoppers are urging each other to stay vigilant and check their receipts closely before leaving the store.

Neither Walmart nor its representatives have publicly addressed these claims.
