Top 5 Los Angeles Chargers Free Agent Targets

Following a return to the playoffs last season, the Los Angeles Chargers are entering free agency with a chance to reshape their roster and make a deeper playoff run. With several key areas needing reinforcements, smart additions could significantly impact. Here are the top five free agents the Chargers should target this offseason.

1. Drew Dalman — C, Atlanta Falcons

Los Angeles will be looking to address the interior offensive line, particularly the center position, after Jim Harbaugh landed Joe Alt on the outside in the first round of last year’s NFL Draft. Drew Dalman is the top center in the free agency class this year, so you would have to imagine he’ll be getting a phone call from Harbaugh, who places immense value in building inside out on both sides of the ball. Dalman missed eight games last season with an ankle injury but was solid when healthy, allowing only 10 pressures and no sacks in pass pro and ranking fourth among centers in run blocking at PFF.

    2. Will Fries — G, Indianapolis Colts

The Chargers have a healthy amount of cap room, so expect them to also look at a guard. If they’re a serious suitor for Dalman, I don’t think they’ll be in the Trey Smith sweepstakes, but a tier-two guard such as Will Fries makes sense. Fries is coming off a tibia injury in October that required surgery and ended his season. When healthy, he’s one of the top guards in the league, but he’ll come in at a lesser price than Smith. PFF has him pegged at $14.3 million AAV for four years.

    3. Khalil Mack — EDGE, Los Angeles Chargers

Picking at No. 22 in the NFL Draft, the Chargers are likely to do their heavy lifting in the trenches through free agency, with the range of their first-round pick typically a sweet spot for a run on wide receivers. So, re-signing veteran pass rusher Khalil Mack should be a priority. If Mack returns, it’s likely on a shorter-term, higher AAV deal, with Mack serving as a bridge at the spot. If Harbaugh wants to draft someone who can learn behind Mack and eventually replace him, Georgia’s Jalon Walker could be on the board when they’re on the clock.

    4. Malcolm Koonce — EDGE, Las Vegas Raiders

If Mack decides to depart Los Angeles, or the Chargers opt for a younger option in his position, Malcolm Koonce is a player the Chargers are likely familiar with and will be in contact with. Koonce missed the 2024 season with a non-contact knee injury but logged 17 quarterback hits in 2023, and with all indications being that his recovery is going well, he’s one of the best available pass rushers in this free-agent class.

    5. Keenan Allen — WR, Chicago Bears

If Keenan Allen doesn’t return to Chicago, he’s likely returning to Los Angeles, where he and his family still reside, making this an obvious fit. Allen was solid for the Bears in 2024, and I do not doubt Justin Herbert would welcome him back to LA with open arms. Allen and Ladd McConkey would be a terrific one-two punch for Herbert, and the Chargers could then take a roll of the dice on a receiver they like somewhere in the draft. They also need a tight end, but I think that’s a position they address through the draft, making it more plausible that they’re interested in a Keenan Allen reunion.
