Indian Trail family displaced after faulty LED light causes house fire

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A malfunctioning LED light caused a massive house fire that displaced a family in Union County, according to Union County Emergency Communications.

Around 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, crews responded to a house fire in the 2300 block of Creek Trail Drive in Indian Trail. When they arrived, they saw an active fire at the single-story home.

The Union County Fire Marshal's Office determined that the fire started in the garage due to a malfunctioning LED light. The family was able to safely get out of the home, however, a resident told Queen City News that their dog is missing.

Officials say no injuries were reported and the American Red Cross is helping those displaced. A neighboring house was also minorly damaged by the fire.

The fire escalated due to doors being left open while the family was evacuating. "The Union County Fire Marshal’s Office encourages all residents to remember to close doors when evacuating a structure fire. Leaving doors open gives a fire oxygen, which it needs to grow," officials said.
