John Lawlor, who starred in The Facts of Life from 1979 to 1980, passed away on Feb. 13. He was 83 years old.
The sad news of Lawlor's passing was confirmed by the actor's family in an obituary on Syracuse.com, stating that he died at the Albuquerque veterans hospice facility. He reportedly had his daughter, Riel, at his side at the time of his death.

The obituary listed some of Lawlor's many accomplishments and the family he left behind, ending with the note, "John will be remembered for his great love and affection for his family, his work and enjoyment of theater, television, movies, literature, and of course, his beloved horses."
Born in 1941 in Troy, N.Y., Lawlor served in the U.S. Army, spending time in Vietnam. He graduated from the University of Colorado before embarking on his journey as an actor. Lawlor participated in the theater troupe called the Nomads Players, which also featured Larry Linville and Joan Van Ark.
Lawlor played the role of Headmaster Stephen Bradley in The Facts of Life, a guiding parental figure for many of the young students at the Eastland School For Girls. He also played Leonard Marsh on Phyllis, one of the spinoffs of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
The late actor had a long and successful career with roles on many other popular shows as well, including The Bold and the Beautiful, Knots Landing, Breaking Bad, and more recently, Godless. In the latter series, his last credited role in 2017, Lawlor played the character Elmer Knowland, an undertaker in the town of La Belle. He also starred in some films, with a few notable projects being Wyatt Earp and Billy Jack Goes to Washington.
Lawlor is survived by five children, Riel, Eric, Bryan, Annie, and Elizabeth, as well as two brothers and three grandchildren. He was the eldest of six children, predeceased by his two other brothers and one sister.
