DENVER (KDVR) -- A crane at an Interstate 25 interchange project in Castle Rock experienced a "malfunction" Sunday night and partially tipped over.

The project will eventually create a new interchange at I-25 and Crystal Valley Parkway, and Sunday was supposed to be the first night of several planned I-25 closures to install bridge structures, according to the city's website.

"A crane at the Crystal Valley interchange project site experienced an equipment malfunction last night," a city of Castle Rock spokesperson told FOX31 in an email. "There were no injuries or damage to the work site. The crew immediately conducted a safety evaluation and worked to reopen the road to traffic early this morning."

The roadway was closed overnight Sunday while crews worked on the crane malfunction, according to the spokesperson, but the actual closures for the structure installations have been postponed for undetermined dates in March.

The interchange construction is expected to be complete in 2027 and will cost $143.5 million, according to the city's website.

The March I-25 closures will be announced once they are finalized, the spokesperson said.
