Scoreboard Watching, An Important Tank Battle, Angel Reese Celebrate Big Sky Trade, and Other Bulls Bullets

I expect to see all Chicago Bulls fans pulling up to the Wells Fargo Center in their finest tanks tonight for a matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Let the worst man lose!

Tankapalooza will be the headline of this evening’s battle between two of the East’s worst. With only 25 games left to go this season, Philly and Chicago are within just 1.5 games of one another. Despite their six-game losing streak, the Bulls are still 10th in the Eastern Conference and thus have a hold on the final Play-In Tournament spot. They have given the 76ers every opportunity to finally re-enter the postseason mix, but Joel Embiid’s squad has repeatedly failed to take advantage and are 1-9 in their last ten games. Whether or not the 76ers have fully joined the Tankathon is unclear. If one thing is for sure, they have far less of an incentive when we consider their win-now roster AND the recent long-term signing of Paul George. At some point, however, it can’t hurt for this group to throw in the towel and try again next year with a lottery pick in the fold. And this weekend’s news may tell us this is finally a reality they are accepting. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Embiid is now exploring alternative options for his injury knee, including surgery. This sure feels like the kind of report you get before news of a season-ending shutdown, and I have to imagine that news would lead the organization to think far more about lottery odds than wins over the final month and a half of the season. Regardless, the standings are so tight that tonight’s outcome could have a pretty significant impact on the final lottery order. The Bulls could move within a mere half-game of swapping spots with Philly with a loss. Win the game, and they bump their lead up to 2.5 and increase their chances of staying put in the Play-In Tournament. So we all know Arturas Karnisovas will be in the locker room giving his most motivational speech yet! We also shouldn’t take our eye off the Brooklyn Nets. For as much talk as there is about Philly, this Brooklyn squad has actually crept closest to swapping spots with the Bulls. They are only a half-game out from the No. 10 seed and tip-off against the Wizards at 6:00 p.m. CT tonight. So … if Chicago loses and Brooklyn wins, they would end the evening in 11th and only a half-game away from falling to 12th. For what it’s worth, going from 10 to 12 increases their chances at a Top 4 pick from 26.3 to 37.2 percent. © Bill Streicher-Imagn Images The 76ers have already beaten the Bulls twice this season. In their most recent 109-97 victory, Tyrese Maxey torched the Bulls’ backcourt for 31 points and 9 assists on 52.2 percent shooting. Kelly Oubre Jr. also carved up Chicago’s defense with his downhill aggressiveness, adding 22 points on 50.0 percent shooting. While Maxey’s efficiency has been inconsistent at best this season, I fully expect him to feast against the Bulls’ perimeter defense again if he suits up (currently questionable on the injury report). Likewise, Ayo Dosunmu will be off the floor this evening, who is easily one of their best on-ball defenders. Nevertheless, this is probably the Bulls’ most winnable game this month. Their meeting with the Suns this weekend was their first time playing a current below-.500 team since Jan. 31. And, as much as the Suns have struggled, we all know they’re better than this 76ers team.

    — Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 23, 2025 The Chicago Sky made a big move on Sunday night. With shooting and backcourt scoring a priority, the organization traded away the No. 3 overall pick for All-Star Ariel Atkins. It’s a hefty price to pay, but Atkins sure feels like the kind of player who can help push this franchise in the right direction. Let’s just hope they are quick to give her a new contract, as she is only locked in for one more season on her current deal. TRADE: Sky Land All-Star Ariel Atkins in Exchange for No. 3 Pick Angel Reese was quick to celebrate the move, commenting on social media about how two Unrivaled participants are now on their way to Chicago. Of course, the first is Courtney Vandersloot, who is reuniting with the organization after two very successful seasons with the New York Liberty. The veteran point guard spent her first 12 seasons with the Sky and leads the franchise in all-time assists.
