The Arizona Diamondbacks selected left-hander Kyle Backhus from Triple-A Reno on Sunday, the team announced.
Catcher Aramis Garcia, who came up for insurance with an ailing Gabriel Moreno, was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Moreno was available again Sunday after taking a wild pitch to his throwing hand on Friday.
Right-handed pitcher Christian Montes De Oca was optioned back to Triple-A after serving as the Diamondbacks’ 27th man for the doubleheader on Saturday. He threw 2.2 innings without allowing a hit in his major league debut in the 13-1 loss.
This is the first time Backhus has cracked the major league roster, and it comes after an exceptional start to his 2025 campaign.
