DEAR EDITOR:
I was surprised when I heard that PETA was going to protest at Buena Vista. Why they chose Buena Vista is beyond me, so I made up my mind that I was going to be there Saturday, Feb. 15.
When I pulled in there, I thought all the people in front were protesters. I saw Nick Frankos and he said that they were Buena Vista supporters. PETA consisted of a truck and a driver. Buena Vista has been in business for almost 70 years and supported our community just as long. Buena Vista paid to have a sports center built for the Harding Panthers. Nick Sr. supported me in the Soap Box Derby for five years. Nick cashed the payroll checks from those who worked at Packard Electric, Grinnell, Ohio Lamp and others. My dad cashed his check there and we ate dinner there.
Nick Jr. took over the Buena Vista and has continued to support our community just like his father, even getting successfully through a pandemic. PETA, on the other hand, think they can come to bully people eating meat, trying to force people to be vegetarians. The only thing PETA has done unsuccessfully, I might add, is disrupt people making a living. It is our choice as to what we eat, just as it is theirs. I was glad to see all the supporters who showed up on behalf of the Frankos and Buena Vista. Lots of love to them.
