The U.S. Coast Guard is conducting flight operations to Texas and California as part of the Trump administration’s deportation efforts, the service’s San Diego office said Saturday.
Throughout this week, the agency has coordinated the actions of multiple units in support of the deportations, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“The Coast Guard’s role is to assist with the national transport of aliens to designated locations in Texas and California, where the Department of Defense will transport the aliens internationally,” the USCG said.
The agency repeatedly used the term “alien,” for those who lack citizenship documents, though immigrant rights and other groups for years have called on officials to avoid dehumanizing migrants with terms such as “aliens” and “illegals.”
The use of the term “alien” has been adopted again by the Coast Guard and other agencies following the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
