With their fifth overall selection, could we see the Jacksonville Jaguars select Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan with Brian Thomas?
One of the best there is when it comes to the NFL draft, Daniel Jeremiah, was asked recently about this potential pairing for the Jaguars:
“You’d have two power forward types,” Jeremiah said. “He’s (McMillan) got unbelievable body control with hands to go play above the end like red zone weapon, Drake London-esque, a real, real smooth mover.”
McMillan has been a massive part of the Wildcat offense for the last two seasons, totaling a whopping 260 targets during that span. He’s gone on to haul in 67% of those passes and an impressive 15.6 yards per catch with 18 touchdowns.
During the 2024 season specifically, McMillan ranked eighth among all receivers in receiving yards on passes of 20-plus air yards. He was also ninth in yards per route run, according to PFF.
Thomas, meanwhile, is coming off a 2024 season in which he finished fourth in the Rookie of the Year voting. Thomas’ 1,282 receiving yards were the third-most in all of football. He also averaged 14.7 yards per catch and had 10 touchdowns.
Adding to Thomas’ impressive performance was that even though defenses knew he was going to be featured heavily and the ball was going to come his way, they oftentimes still couldn’t slow him down.
As good as Thomas’ first year was, new offensive coordinator Grant Udinski is excited for the growth and potential that is still out there for him. This doesn’t only mean more opportunities, but in how Thomas is utilized within the Jaguars’ offense.
“Just in terms of the excitement of the tools and the ability that he has and the potential there,” Udinski said. “You saw the results this year, but the potential for growth beyond this year and the different ways you can use him to attack defenses in a multitude of ways.”
With two receivers who are capable of attacking all levels of the field and can each lineup out wide or in the slot, it gives Liam Coen a variety of ways that he can attack opposing defenses.
We’ve seen a few mock drafts here and there that have the Jaguars taking McMillan at fifth overall. The most popular pick for Jacksonville is Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham.
Taking McMillan at pick No. 5 is a bit high compared to where Jeremiah has the receiver on his big board, but an argument for that selection can be made.
“That’s a little bit higher than I have him, but I have him as a top receiver,” Jeremiah said. “I have him as the 15th player (overall).
“Gosh,” Jeremiah added, “I guess that’s not that far removed from where Ihave him graded. I think you could make that argument. That would be a fun pairing.”
