Iron sharpens iron.
Former rivals, DK Metcalf and Jalen Ramsey, now find themselves sharing a locker room as members of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In a stunning turn of events, the Steelers traded for Ramsey on Monday to bolster their defense and add more star power to a roster that includes Metcalf and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The Steelers traded for Metcalf in the spring, while signing Rodgers to a one-year deal last month, signaling they are pushing all of their chips to the middle of the table.
Ramsey and Metcalf are now teammates after a storied rivalry when they were members of the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West, going head-to-head twice a year.
Ramsey played for the Rams from 2019 until 2022, while Metcalf was on the Seahawks from 2019 to 2024.
The two shared memorable battles as fierce competitors and known trash-talkers, but there was always a sense of mutual respect towards one another at the end of the day.
During a segment of the NFL‘s Top 100 Players of the 2021 season, Metcalf was asked who the toughest cornerback was that he’s ever faced.
“Jalen. Jalen Ramsey,” Metcalf said with a laugh.
“I mean, just his trash talk, he’s strong, competitive. It’s just a battle every time we go up against each other.”
When the Rams originally traded for Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars, the All-Pro cornerback knew why he was being brought to LA.
When asked about Metcalf, ahead of a 2020 showdown, Ramsey didn’t shy away.
Ramsey and Metcalf both got the upper hand at various times in their battlesGetty The two superstars definitely got under each other’s skinGetty“I live for these type of matchups,” Ramsey said, per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. “I was brought here to stop guys like him.”
Now, the two All-Pro talents will be going up against one another every day at practice.
That should bring smiles to head coach Mike Tomlin, Rodgers and Steelers fans everywhere.
With Rodgers all but confirming that 2025 is going to be his last season, the time is now for the storied franchise to capitalize on the opportunity with the four-time league MVP lining up under center.
Tomlin and the Steelers haven’t won a postseason game since 2016.
It’s been nearly a decade without any kind of playoff success in the Steel City, which seems unfathomable, yet true.

They have the team, and the roster, to be legitimate title contenders, and with the newest addition of Ramsey, the sky is the limit for this once storied franchise.
