Denver weather: Winter Storm Warning in effect Thursday into Friday morning

DENVER (KDVR) — More snow will return to portions of the front range and metro Denver weather forecast with light-to-moderate accumulation expected by Friday morning. A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day is in effect starting Thursday until Friday morning.

On Thursday at about 10:20 p.m., the National Weather Service in Boulder upgraded its issued alerts to a Winter Storm Warning through 8 a.m. Friday. The areas impacted include Jefferson and Douglas County, where a snow band has produced accumulations of between 5 to 12 inches of snow. Once the band passes, NWS said lighter snow is expected to persist until Friday morning.

    Higher snow totals will fall in the western foothills and south up the Palmer Divide. Areas north and east of Denver will likely see very little, if any, snow.

    Weather tonight: Snowy

    Single-digit lows continue for the far Eastern Plains into Friday morning.

    Snow will fall overnight on Thursday for areas generally along and south of Interstate 70. Higher totals will fall to the west and south of Denver. Temperatures will remain quite cold over the far eastern plains.

    Weather tomorrow: Turning sunny

    Milder temperatures Friday afternoon.

    After some early morning snow, clouds will clear leaving sunnier skies in the afternoon. Temperatures will also warm into the 30s and low 40s, meaning any snow that falls likely won't stick around long.

    Looking ahead: A big warm-up to end February

    Temperatures continue to warm this weekend. Highs Saturday will be in the 40s to low 50s, with temperatures jumping into the upper 50s and low 60s Sunday. Expect breezy conditions Sunday afternoon and continuing into next week.

    After early snow on Friday, temperatures surge for next week.

    Speaking of next week, it'll be a quiet end to February with temperatures well above normal in the lower and middle 60s. For now, this warmer stretch of weather looks to continue into the start of March.
