DENVER (KDVR) — Law enforcement attempting to serve a search warrant in Brighton said the situation has turned into a standoff.
At around 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, the Adams County Sheriff's Office said deputies and Brighton police officers were called to 20400 E. 160th Ave. to serve a search warrant. However, the scene escalated into a standoff.
The area is north of Barr Lake State Park and west of Interstate 76.
FOX31 Newsletters: Sign up to get breaking news sent to your inboxSgt. Adam Sherman with the Adams County Sheriff's Office told FOX31 that a shelter-in-place has been issued for surrounding residences. Anyone who needs to travel along the 5200 block of Bridge Street will need to find a detour.
The sheriff's office will provide updates if the shelter-in-place expands.
The sheriff's office said multiple "specialized teams" are on scene and negotiating with the suspect in an attempt to achieve a peaceful resolution.
