As the Cincinnati Bengals prepare for another pivotal offseason, the team is eyeing key free-agent signings to strengthen their roster and make a deep run in the playoffs. With several high-profile players set to hit the market, here are the top five free agents the Bengals should target to address critical needs and boost their championship aspirations.
Top 5 Cincinnati Bengals Free Agent Targets
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins (5) and Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase (1) celebrate a Higgins touchdown in the third quarter of the NFL Week 11 game between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024. The Chargers won 34-27.1. Tee Higgins — WR, Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals’ first order of business should be securing the services of wide receiver Tee Higgins, who is set to become a free agent after spending the 2024 season playing on the franchise tag in Cincinnati. Higgins and the Bengals have both expressed a desire to remain together over the last year-plus, but it remains to be seen whether that will be viable in the end. Higgins is one of the premier receivers in the NFL, and Cincinnati could use the franchise tag on him again this offseason to buy the two sides time to strike a deal.
2. Chris Godwin — WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
If Higgins and the Bengals can’t agree, Cincinnati could pivot to another excellent wide receiver, Chris Godwin. Godwin has consistently had some of the best hands in the league and is one of the most productive receivers in the NFL despite playing with multiple quarterbacks and offensive play-callers during his eight NFL seasons in Tampa Bay.

The Bengals could use some help on the offense line this offseason. According to ESPN, Cincinnati’s 50 percent pass block win rate ranked dead last in the NFL last season. Joe Burrow was sacked 48 times in 2024, which was tied for the fourth-most sacks in the league. Trey Smith could help keep Burrow upright more in 2025. Imagine what Burrow could do if he’s not being dropped nearly 50 times after throwing for almost 5,000 yards and 43 touchdowns while doing so last season.
4. Josh Sweat — EDGE, Philadelphia Eagles
Cincinnati is looking to secure Trey Hendrickson long-term, but if that doesn’t pan out, Josh Sweat is a long-term option at 28 years old that could help Cincinnati bolster their pass rush and serve as a long-term building block for that unit. Sweat was a steady producer in Philadelphia under multiple defensive coordinators and was a wrecking ball for the Eagles in their Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this month.
5. Chavarious Ward — CB, San Francisco 49ers
Chavarious Ward could be a solid bounce-back candidate after struggling with the 49ers in 2024. Ward was a top-10 cornerback according to PFF’s grading system in each of the previous two seasons. With Deommodore Lenoir receiving an extension from the 49ers last season, Ward looks to be on the way out. He could be a significant upgrade for the Bengals secondary if he can return to his 2023 form.
