Micah Parsons Has Some Thoughts on the Matt Eberflus Hire in Dallas

When the Bears and Cowboys square off this year, Dallas star defensive end Micah Parsons will do so under the direction of a familiar face to Chicago’s fans.

In case you missed it, Dallas hired Matt Eberflus as its new defensive coordinator in January. Before his move to the Cowboys, where he will join Brian Schottenheimer’s staff, Eberflus was last seen on Thanksgiving roaming the sidelines at Ford Field in Detroit and holding onto a timeout in what would ultimately be his final game as the Bears’ head coach. For me, the Eberflus era is water under the bridge at this point. But his explanation for the irredeemable clock management at the end of that game still sticks in my craw.

Anyway, I found Micah Parsons’ comments about playing under a new defensive coordinator (via the Dallas Cowboys’ official website) to be interesting — in part because he will be playing for the former Chicago Bears head coach:

“It’s just learning a new system and getting another coach’s adjustments to how I like to play, what I like to do… and implicate me. Obviously, it is challenging with a third [defensive coordinator] and [another change] is obviously not the greatest thing in the world but, I mean, that’s part of being a pro. You’ve got to make adjustments.”

Change and new challenges are expected for football players around the league this time of year. But I wonder how Micah Parsons will handle things in a year when he is in line for a massive contract extension. Last year, Parsons had a hold-out during the offseason. However, he has reportedly made it known he won’t do that this year and plans to attend OTAs and things of that nature.

How will Micah Parsons perform under Matt Eberflus?

    Micah Parsons is a monster.

The Dallas Cowboys pass rusher is coming off a season in which he collected 12 sacks, 12 tackles-for-loss, and 23 quarterback hits. He made the Pro Bowl for a fourth consecutive season and will enter the 2025 campaign averaging 13 sacks, 16 TFLs, and 28 QB hits per season. That dude is a menace, and I am glad the Chicago Bears have to face him just once next season.

REMEMBER WHEN CALEB WILLIAMS’ RETWEET ABOUT MICAH PARSONS TURNED HEADS?

That said, a small part of me is curious to see how Parsons performs under a new defensive coordinator. This will be the third different defensive coordinator Micah Parsons will have played for in Dallas in as many years. It did not look like the change in defensive play callers negatively impacted the sack machine. But after watching defensive ends not live up to their potential in Chicago under Matt Eberflus’ watchful eye, I wonder how one of the best in the business will do with Coach Flus in Dallas.
