Frank Warren has revealed to talkSPORT that he recently had a meeting with Billy Joe Saunders to discuss a possible comeback fight.
BJS spent the majority of his professional career under Warren’s Queensberry Promotions during a highly successful partnership that included two separate reigns as a WBO world champion at middleweight and super middleweight.
In 2019, the pair agreed to terms for an amicable release from Saunders’ promotional contract.
However, that hasn’t stopped the 35-year-old from entertaining the idea of resuming his career under his old promoter’s guidance.
“He came to see me a couple of weeks ago and we had a chat. We will see what happens,” Warren told talkSPORT’s Spencer Oliver just before Anthony Cacace’s impressive ninth-round stoppage win over Leigh Wood in Nottingham on Saturday night.
Saunders hasn’t stepped foot in the ring since May 2021, when he suffered multiple fractures to his right eye socket during an eighth-round retirement defeat to Canelo Alvarez in what remains the sole blemish on his otherwise perfect 30-1 record.
The Cheshunt technician recently revealed that he is planning to end his four-year hiatus in September with a return to action at light heavyweight.
Warren told talkSPORT that Saunders is then aiming to drop back down to super middleweight after a couple of fights at 175lbs.
A rematch with Chris Eubank Jr is at the top of Saunders’ hit list after they re-ignited their feud at ‘Next Gen’s’ British classic with Conor Benn last month.
Saunders, who defeated Eubank Jr via split decision in 2014, was sent to watch his old foe get his hands wrapped as Team Benn’s representative.
However, he was repeatedly denied access to his rival’s dressing room as tensions boiled over and a shouting match with Eubank Jr’s manager, Elliott ‘Napper’ Amoakoh, ensued.
“You’re a nobody, bruv, you’re nothing more than a big bouncer,” Saunders screamed at Napper.

“You’re an old bouncer, look at the size of you. I will write you off in seconds.”
Saunders has repeatedly teased a return to the ring over the years, but nothing has come to fruition as of yet.
He looked very out of shape when he attended Eubank Jr vs Benn and would have to put in a long camp to boil himself down to light heavyweight.
Only Saunders knows whether he has the commitment to do that.
But all indications from recent interviews suggest he is dead serious about making a comeback.
Saunders is planning to return in September at light heavyweightMark Robinson / Matchroom Boxing“It’s more a case of needing to do it for myself rather than anything else, including world titles,” Saunders told Ring Magazine.
“My biggest goal would be to become a three-weight world champion, but let’s just get back fighting and then see where we are.
“If I go in there and get splattered by somebody, then I can look at myself and go, ‘Well, look, it wasn’t X, Y and Z.
“Clearly, you left that too late.’ I can probably live with that, if I’m totally honest.
“But if I do everything right and go in there, and I know how I’m feeling, I’ll be OK.
“I’ve still never been down once, 86 amateur bouts, 31 fights as a pro, even against Canelo, never touched a canvas in my life. I’m fresh.”
