Top 5 Arizona Cardinals Free Agent Targets

With free agency approaching, the Arizona Cardinals must be active after a promising yet disappointing 2024 season. They showed progress but collapsed late, missing the playoffs. As Jonathan Gannon enters his third year as head coach, the team needs to go all-in to avoid another late-season failure. Here are five free agents that could help the Arizona Cardinals in 2025.

Top 5 Arizona Cardinals Free Agent Targets

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (1) leads his team onto the field before playing against the Chicago Bears at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Nov. 3, 2024.

1. Trey Smith — G, Kansas City Chiefs

Top offensive linemen rarely hit free agency, but Smith may be too expensive for Kansas City to retain. A Pro Bowler with just one missed a start in four seasons; the 26-year-old is the kind of player teams willing to spend big on—Super Bowl contenders or not. The Cardinals should strongly consider adding him to solidify their offensive line. Patrick Mekari from the Ravens or Mekhi Becton could be a great fit if Arizona opts for a more budget-friendly option. Smith’s 78.8 PFF overall grade in the regular season ranked 11th among all guards, and he will still be only 25 when free agency opens.

    2. Josh Sweat — EDGE, Philadelphia Eagles

Reuniting Josh Sweat with Jonathan Gannon could be an excellent move for the Cardinals, as the 28-year-old pass rusher thrived under Gannon in 2021 with a career-best 11 sacks. Even after Gannon’s departure, Sweat has remained productive, totaling 14.5 sacks over the past two seasons. While some fans may prefer a reunion with Haason Reddick, Sweat is the better option. He remains a dynamic pass rusher with plenty of strong years ahead, making him a valuable addition to Arizona’s defense.

    3. Chase Young — EDGE, New Orleans Saints

Chase Young hasn’t lived up to his draft status due to injuries, but he showed some promise last season by staying healthy for all 17 games despite recording just 5.5 sacks. As he turns 26 in April, there’s still hope he can turn things around. While signing Young wouldn’t be a game-changing move, he could provide valuable depth at the edge position without a hefty price tag. For a Cardinals team needing pass-rushing help, Young could be a low-risk, high-reward addition, especially if they can’t land a top option such as Josh Sweat.

    4. Osa Odighizuwa — DI, Dallas Cowboys

Osa Odighizuwa could be a great bargain signing for a team needing interior pass-rush help. The former third-round pick has totaled 13.5 sacks over four seasons with the Cowboys and consistently challenged opposing offensive lines. The Cardinals, needing more front-seven depth to generate pressure without excessive blitzing, would benefit from his addition. While Arizona already has a similar player in Dante Stills, their lack of depth at the position makes Odighizuwa a valuable fit.

    5. Zack Baun — LB, Philadelphia Eagles

Zack Baun was one of the biggest breakout stars of the 2024 season, thriving in a full-time linebacker role with the Eagles after a key position change. He posted elite stats with 151 tackles, 3.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and an interception—numbers worthy of Defensive Player of the Year consideration. While Philadelphia will likely want to retain him, they’ve historically replaced linebackers without much difficulty. If the Cardinals move on from Kyzir White, Baun could be a younger, high-upside replacement who fits well in Jonathan Gannon’s defensive scheme and quickly becomes a fan favorite.
