Things between Marina Mabrey and the Connecticut Sun might be awkward for quite some time.
After seeing the team’s entire starting five move on to new destinations, Mabrey understandably asked to move on, too.
However, the Sun aren’t fulfilling the request. They’ve reportedly denied it. According to Sportico’s Eric Jackson, president Jennifer Rizzotti was clear about the team’s current state. “We’re not hitting the panic button,” she said. “We feel good about the moves that we’ve made. We’ve been very intentional about our priorities …”
But there’s more. The Sun understood that trading for Mabrey last year included the possibility she could ask for a trade again. Connecticut was seemingly prepared for it and doesn’t plan to budge.
“We knew at the time that she had already forced her way out of two teams. So, it was a bit risky for us to trade for her, but we felt like it was worth it.”
