Peyton Manning can be seen just about everywhere in his post-playing career. The former Tennessee star and one of the top 25 players in Tennessee football history retired from the NFL in 2015 after a Hall of Fame career.
Now, the legendary quarterback can be seen on ESPN’s “ManningCast” during the football season and has lent his voice and appearance to many commercials through endorsement deals. But Manning is not above poking fun at himself and his post-playing career.
Over the weekend, NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” celebrated its 50th anniversary, and Manning made a cameo as a former host. He began by asking Lorne Michaels if the show’s creator and producer was retiring.
“Is Lorne (Michaels) going to retire now?” questioned Manning.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, hosting the opening monologue segment, answer that Michaels does not intend to, much to the relief of Manning.
“Okay, that’s great news. Lorne, never retire. It’s brutal out here,” said Manning. “They have me doing all these commercials: insurance, beer. I did one the other day for something called Fan Fight Power Monster 3. I don’t even know what the hell it is. I just assumed it was a video game but then in the voice-over, I said ‘Now in diet chili flavor.’
“I hate beating retired. No, seriously Lorne. Getting old SUCKS! I feel like a loser. (Zach) Galifianakis knows what I’m talking about.”
