NFL staff ‘confirm apology sent’ to snubbed star after Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show ‘mistake’

THE NFL has vowed to reconsider how Super Bowl entertainment decisions are made following the Kendrick Lamar halftime saga, according to insiders.

The U.S. Sun exclusively revealed that NFL bosses regretted snubbing New Orleans native Lil Wayne in favor of Grammy award-winning star Kendrick with sources now confirming an apology was sent over the choice.

Sports anchor Skip Bayless, who is close to Lil Wayne, revealed that high-ranking football officials contacted the rapper to apologize.

An insider told The U.S. Sun “it was a mistake” to pluck for Kendrick, especially with the focus centering on the controversial content of his show and his hit Not Like Us, which insinuates rap rival Drake is a pedophile.

With Jay-Z’s Roc Nation company entering into a long-term partnership with the NFL in 2019 to mastermind the entertainment for the largest sporting event in the United States, plenty of questions are being asked.

The U.S. Sun understands that there are people within the organization who want to ensure that more people are in the decision-making circle moving forward.

They want high-level NFL executives to make the calls along with Jay-Z and his Roc Nation chiefs.

“The same kind of mistake won’t ever happen again. That is what happens when you give too much power and responsibility to one person (Jay-Z). There are many people in the NFL that want changes on this side of the business and that didn’t like this year’s halftime show and the way it happened.”

The U.S. Sun has contacted Roc Nation for comment but is yet to hear back.

Another source inside the NFL says there is regret at how Bayless revealed the situation with Lil Wayne and admits the whole fallout has been “very, very frustrating to deal with.”

“We made a mistake, this news wasn’t supposed to be released, and we will learn from it,” he said.

The insider also stressed a desire to have “more people” involved in the decision-making process regarding the halftime performers.

“We will push for change, as we don’t want to experience this kind of thing next season,” he added.

“The tension linked with Kendrick made us regret giving the green light to him. I think and am not the only one who thinks this way.”

A second NFL source echoed the regrettable decision.

“I mean, New Orleans is the city of Lil Wayne,” the league insider added.

“He did a lot and it would have been fantastic to have him do the halftime show and show his love, and feel the love, from his hometown.

“The choice was clearly the wrong one, and now the goal is to not make the same mistake from now on.”

Lil Wayne previously opened up about his disappointment in not being selected for the massive gig.

“I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown and for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position,” he said on Instagram Live in September last year.

“I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, that platform, in my city.

“So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot.”

Kendrick has become embroiled in a public dispute with Drake, threatening to overshadow his performance at the Superdome last Sunday.

He ended his set with his controversial track “Not Like Us,” which he aimed at Drake.

As The U.S. Sun exclusively revealed, he didn’t hold back despite pressure to tone it down.

Though he avoided singing the word “pedophile” in front of a global TV audience of hundreds of millions, he belted out the rest of the lyrics, including the now-infamous “A minor” line, which the crowd could be heard singing along to.

A friend of Kendrick’s told The U.S. Sun, the sparkling necklace he wore during the show, which gleamed with 515 diamonds including an encrusted lowercase letter “a,” was a further jab at Drake.

Kendrick’s people were reportedly “all caught by surprise” and “stunned with the detail” when he put on the necklace after receiving it from Eliantte, a private jeweler in New York City, just 24 hours before the game.

“Kendrick succeeded in wanting to pass his message and not be censored,” the source said.

“Everyone thought it was a brilliant way of having his lyrics and message echoed by the masses. It was the kind of genius move only ultra-smart people would make.”

    DRAKE & KENDRICK FEUD TIMELINE

On October 6, 2023, Drake and J. Cole released First Person Shooter, in which J. Cole claimed that himself, Drake, and Kendrick are the “big three” of hip-hop.

On March 22, 2024, Kendrick responded to the claim of a “big three” in his verse on Metro Boomin and Future’s song Like That, where he instead stated, “It’s just big me,” and accused both rappers of sneak dissing.

On April 5, 2024, J. Cole dropped his Kendrick diss track, 7 Minute Drill, in which he fired “warning shots” at the rapper as he accused the good kid, m.A.A.d city artist of seeking “attention” and slammed his latest music releases as “tragic.”

But on April 7, 2024, two days after releasing the Kendrick diss, J. Cole retracted his statement and backed out of the feud, as he stated he felt pressured to respond because “the world wanna see blood.”

On April 13, 2024, Drake responded to Kendrick with Push Ups, which had lyrics ridiculing Kendrick’s height and his mainstream collaborations with Taylor Swift and Maroon 5.

The track also dissed rappers Future and Rick Ross and producer Metro Boomin.

On April 19, 2024, Drake dropped another diss track, Taylor Made Freestyle, that used AI-generated voices of Snoop Dogg and the late Tupac Shakur to pressure Kendrick to respond.

On April 30, 2024, Kendrick dropped Euphoria, a six-minute diss track, in which he criticized Drake’s biracial identity, questioned the rapper’s ability as a father, and claimed that Drake is a “scam artist.”

On May 1, 2024, Drake responded to Kendrick’s diss by posting a clip from the 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You on his Instagram Story in which Julia Stiles’ character Kat lists the reasons she hates Heath Ledger’s character Patrick – mirroring a Euphoria bar where Lamar provides reasons he hates Drake.

On May 3, 2024, Kendrick dropped a second Drake diss track, 6:16 in LA in which Kendrick alleges Drake’s own team is working against him as he rapped, “Everyone inside your team is whispering that you deserve it,” and stated Drake “can’t Toosie Slide up out of this one.”

After Drake responded with his diss track Family Matters, where he called accused Kendrick of infidelity, the Humble hitmaker would release Meet the Grahams, his fourth diss track against the Canadian rapper.
