YouTube TVs dispute with CBS has fans worried about missing March Madness and The Masters

It’s the best time of year to be a sports fan.

The Super Bowl just ended, March Madness is coming right up, The Masters return to Augusta, Georgia immediately after and the WNBA starts up a month later.

Or at least it was going to be a great time to be a sports fan. Then YouTube TV subscribers received an email on Wednesday night that the service is in a carrier dispute with Paramount and a blackout is coming.

Considering Paramount owns CBS — among many other networks — and has broadcast deals for March Madness, The Masters and the WNBA, this is nothing short of a disaster in the making for sports fans.

YouTube TV’s Paramount blackout is slated to begin Thursday, per the streamer:

On February 13, 2025, all Paramount channels will likely become unavailable on YouTube TV. If this happens, this will impact previous Library recordings from these channels, Paramount content in the Entertainment Plus package, and add-on services like Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and BET+. Should Paramount content become unavailable, we will continue to update our Help Center with the latest.

‌…It’s our goal to restore Paramount content to YouTube TV, but if we do not come to an agreement and their content is unavailable for an extended period of time, we’ll offer our YouTube TV subscribers an $8 credit. You can still watch Paramount shows and movies by signing up for their streaming service, Paramount+, starting at $7.99/month.

An $8/month credit to sign up for another service just to restore channels many already paid for is a tough pill to swallow for subscribers. It’s even worse considering YouTube TV just raised its prices again.

We’ll watch for more fallout and keep an eye on any new details that emerge. In the meantime, YouTube TV is getting bombarded with angry comments from sports fans.

Cutting the cord wasn’t supposed to limit their ability to see who cuts down the nets this April.

I’ve had YouTube tv for 6 months, the price has gone up $30 and now I can’t watch cbs on it. I’m praying it’s somehow back before the big ten tournament

Just got an email from YouTubeTV that CBS will soon be unavailable due to contract disputes. They better have it back by March Madness or else… pic.twitter.com/UuCzjXq5u4

Was literally going to finally cut the cord and switch to YouTube TV today. But no CBS for March Madness is a deal breaker.

Any suggestions for alternatives? Pretty much only watch sports on live TV t.co/FmteY6dy8L

Let's just go back to cable.

The only reason I have YouTube TV is for sports and if you can't get CBS a month before March Madness what are we doing pic.twitter.com/f0omWqSYl9
