DENVER (KDVR) -- A driver is being charged after officers report they caught the driver going more than twice the speed limit on Interstate 25 in Thornton while "highly intoxicated" over Super Bowl weekend.
The Thornton Police Department shared the news of the stop Wednesday afternoon on X, saying the driver, who was 21 years old, was driving 126 mph in a 55 mph zone on the interstate.
"Remember when we said #ThorntonPD officers would be out keeping the roads safe during Super Bowl weekend? We weren’t kidding," the department shared on X.
The driver's vehicle was impounded, and they were charged with speeding, reckless driving, and driving under the influence.
"By getting this driver off the road, our officers may have saved a life," the department said. "Every time you get behind the wheel, you make a choice. Make the right one, because the wrong choice could be deadly."
