Tennessee baseball player Alberto Osuna Sanchez sues NCAA for additional eligibility

Tennessee baseball player Alberto Osuna Sanchez, who competed at a junior college, has filed a lawsuit claiming that his JUCO years should not be counted when considering his eligibility, according to a report by Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger on Wednesday.

Osuna Sanchez has a pending waiver with the NCAA to play an additional season.

This lawsuit is another in a long line of them that has been filed against the NCAA regarding its eligibility rules, and this time it has everything to do with defending national champion Tennessee.

Dellenger tweeted that this college baseball lawsuit is the baseball version of the Diego Pavia suit, which triggered the NCAA to issue a waiver to those in a similar situation. Pavia was a breakout star on the Vanderbilt football team in 2024, leading the Commodores to an upset of then-No. 1 Alabama.

According to Dellenger, the waiver does not extend to Osuna Sanchez to compete in the 2025 baseball season. Instead, the waiver extends only to those using a 4th year in the fall of 2025/spring of 2026 cycle.
