With major updates addressing user concerns, Mailbird for Mac is shaping up to be a top-tier email client
Several months ago, I published a review for Mailbird for Mac. It’s a desktop email client that is designed to be sleek and efficient, but at the time I felt it was lacking some basic email functionality and design elements. I’m very happy to say that Mailbird obviously listens to their users’ feedback because they have released some impressive updates in the last month that cover many of the concerns that I voiced in my original review.
Our users have told us repeatedly how much they love the level of personalization in the Windows version of Mailbird, such as themes, colors, avatars, sidebar tweaks, and more. So, we’re bringing that same flexibility to Mac, along with a fresh and modern redesign.
The Mailbird development team has been working hard to put all of this in motion—rolling out two major updates in the last month (v1.2.0 and v1.2.1)—and there’s plenty more on the way.”

My Re-Review
Mailbird is still incredibly fast, especially after the latest round of updates. If you read my original review, you may have noticed the list of cons I included at the beginning of the article. These are the features I noticed the most and Mailbird’s latest releases have addressed many of them.
Items Addressed
Cannot select multiple emails → This was a feature that I use regularly in Apple Mail and was disappointed was not available. I will frequently select multiple emails and drag them to the appropriate folders for filing. Mailbird now allows for Multi-Select Conversations for moving, deleting, or otherwise managing the messages. This along with the new Move Emails with Drag & Drop feature makes Mailbird much more functional for me. No UI customization available → While there are still some additional UI features that could be implemented, Mailbird has added a Dark Mode option along with the ability to upload a custom avatar. No drag and drop functionality → In addition to the ability to move emails with drag-and-drop functionality, Mailbird also added the option to Drag & Drop Attachments. This greatly improves efficiency in my opinion.Other New Features
In addition to the updates that addressed my initial concerns, Mailbird has added many more customization options for users to take advantage of.
Column Layout – Organize your inbox more efficiently with a new column-based view. Reorder Accounts – Customize the order of your email accounts for easier access. Select & Copy Email Subject – Easily copy email subjects for reference or sharing. Remember Window Size & Position – The app now remembers your preferred window dimensions and placement. Snippets – Speed up your workflow with reusable text snippets. Unread Filter – Quickly filter unread emails for better inbox management. Search by Clicking on Sender’s Avatar – Instantly find all emails from a specific sender. Print a Message – Easily print emails directly from the app. Swipe Support in Conversation List – Navigate conversations effortlessly with swipe gestures. Ability to Scale/Zoom UI – Adjust the interface size for better readability. Account Aliases – Send emails using different aliases for better identity management. Reduced Noisy macOS Notifications – Less distraction while staying informed. Clear Search Button Added – Easily reset search results. Unread Conversations Load Correctly in Unread Filter – Ensuring you don’t miss any messages. Fixed Email Read Status Issue – Emails now correctly mark as read after deleting the previous one while ‘Auto-select next email’ is enabled. Context Menu Updates for Multi-Selected Conversations – Accurate options when selecting multiple emails. Bug Fix: Unable to Scroll Conversations with Scrollbar – Smooth scrolling experience restored. Fixed Tooltip for ‘Move to Inbox’ in Archive Folder – Corrected display text. Updated Feedback Email Address – Ensuring your feedback reaches the right team. UI Tweaks for HTML Viewer & Subject Line Display – Improving readability and consistency. Updated App Icon & Splash Screen – A refreshed visual identity for a cleaner and more modern look. Fixed Issue with Sending from the Wrong Account – Ensuring emails are sent from the intended address. Improved Infrastructure – Under-the-hood enhancements for better stability and performance.Because Mailbird is a new release for Mac users, I feel like they are making a lot of strides in bringing the app up-to-date with what macOS users expect with their mail client experience. I love the fact that they are continuously evaluating their product and actively listening to user feedback. I do still hope that they will end up creating a mobile version. They have added Swipe Support, but I don’t see that being beneficial with a macOS desktop client since Mac computers/laptops don’t have touchscreens.
The tracking feature is still only tracking opens and does not track clicks. Since I use a third-party extension for that sort of information, I’m hoping it gets integrated into Mailbird at some point. I noticed there is still not a place to set up automations or rules, which I would really love to see. Finally, Mailbird charges for regular updates on top of their subscription plans. I would understand this as a paid feature for the free version of the software, but if you are paying a subscription fee, I think updates should be included as long as the subscription is active.
Conclusion
Mailbird for Mac has made significant improvements since my initial review, demonstrating the development team’s commitment to user feedback. The updates have addressed many of my concerns, making the app far more functional and customizable. The introduction of drag-and-drop features, multi-select capabilities, and UI customizations, among other enhancements, have greatly improved the overall experience. While there are still a few areas where Mailbird could expand its functionality—such as automation, advanced tracking, and a mobile version—it is on the right path. If the company continues to iterate and improve at this pace, Mailbird has the potential to become one of the best email clients for Mac users.
