According to "On Camera Audiences," which offers tickets to audience members for The Masked Singer's filming, Season 13 filmed from Oct. 22 to Nov. 20, 2024.

The 15 contestants of The Masked Singer Season 12 will be divided up into three groups of five. The "Wildcard" contestants, after being re-introduced to the show in Season 11, will not be making a return appearance.

The Masked Singer work?

The Masked Singer is based on the South Korean show King of Mask Singer. A group of celebrities compete on the show anonymously in costumes over a series of episodes. In each episode, a portion of the competitors are paired off into face-off competitions, in which each will perform a song of his or her choice in their real voice. From each face-off, the panelists and live audience vote; the winner is safe for the week, while the loser is put up for elimination. At the end of the episode, the losers of the face-offs are then subjected to the earlier votes of the panelists to determine who will not continue; the eliminated singer then takes off their mask to reveal their identity.

Keeping the identities of the singers a secret is one of the biggest challenges on The Masked Singer, executive producer Craig Plestis said during the Fox Entertainment panel at Deadline’s Contenders Television virtual event. “Every season it’s hard, a lot of people are trying to spy and get in with cameras on set. I always say the best job to have on The Masked Singer is to be part of the security detail, there’s more security than producers on the show. Without the secrets, the show is blown right open.”

What happened in The Masked Singer Season 12?

Season 12 aired in fall 2024. Contestants included Leaf Sheep (John Elway), Showbird (Yvette Nicole Brown), Woodpecker (Marsai Martin), Ship (Paula Cole), Dust Bunny (Andy Richter), Chess Piece (Laverne Cox), Bluebell (Natalie Imbruglia), Macaron (Bethany Hamilton), Ice King (Drake Bell), Royal Knight (Jana Kramer), Sherlock Hound (Bronson Arroyo), Goo (Kobie Turner), Strawberry Shortcake (AJ Michalka), Wasp (Mario), and season winner Buffalos (Boyz II Men).

Season 11 saw the first shake-up to the judges' panel in Masked Singer history. Singer and songwriter Rita Ora joined the judges, replacing Nicole Scherzinger, who was starring in Sunset Boulevard on the West End in London while the season was filming. Ora has appeared as a judge in the U.K. version of The Masked Singer since its inception. Rita has continued to serve as a judge while Nicole took Sunset stateside on Broadway.

The host is actor and comedian Nick Cannon. Cannon made headlines last year after getting a staggering five new children over the course of 2022.

The Masked Singer has hit the right nerve with TV viewers. And Ken Jeong knows why The Masked Singer has been so successful.

"It’s insane, isn’t it?" he explains to Parade.com. "None of us expected the monster ratings, pun intended. One reviewer described the show as a 'fever dream.' It’s like, 'Wow, is The Masked Singer on or do I have the flu?'”

The real winner?

“It’s the format,” he says. “The Masked Singer is four-game shows rolled into one. It’s part American Idol, part The Voice, part Dancing With the Stars, and a little bit vintage What’s My Line. And it's addictive. The format is the star.”

Season 8 of The Masked Singer introduced all-new custom-made costumes for the celebrity singers to wear. They were designed by Tim Chappel, who previously designed costumes for the Australian version of the show. He took over from Emmy winner Marina Toybina in season 7.
