BUDA, Texas (KXAN) --- A first-grade teacher with Pfluger Elementary School is no longer employed by the district following an incident on Monday, according to Hays CISD.
The district confirmed to KXAN that during dismissal, the teacher “dragged a student by the arm from the school’s gym to the hallway outside of the gym as the school prepared to release students for the day.”
In a statement, Hays CISD said other teachers saw this happen and notified campus administrators. They went to the Human Resources department, according to the district.
“The HR department had the teacher report to the district’s administrative offices first thing Tuesday morning, and not to campus. The teacher resigned, but the district has reported this matter to Child Protective Services (CPS) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA),” the district said in a statement.
Hays CISD said the teacher had been employed with the district since October 2018.
“At no time, and under no circumstance, is it OK for an employee of our school district to treat a child in this manner. The actions of this teacher are completely unacceptable,” said Tim Savoy, Hays CISD chief communication officer. “Children are entrusted into our care by the thousands each day. We take that responsibility seriously and to heart, and are deeply distressed by the incident that occurred Monday.”
The district said it sent an email to parents Tuesday after 5 p.m. about the incident.
